2/23/12- Pillowcases

Our club's been doing great on service projects lately! As soon as were were done repacking onions, we turned right around and started (insert dramatic music here)....the Pillowcase Project!

Our mission was simple:
1) Purchase fabric during Janurary meeting
2) Spend our Feburary meeting sewing like maniacs
3) Deliver cheerfully colorful pillowcases to Seattle Children's Hospital!

And does anyone remember the absoluetly adorable (and delicious!) snacks that the Silva's brought?

If anyone's interested in making some of these for themselves, you can find the recipe here.

Pillowcase Project complete! Thanks, everyone!

2/7/12- Return to Food Lifeline

Due to last year's delightful experience while volunteering at our local Food Lifeline warehouse (see here for details), our club voted unanimously to schedule this year's service project there again!

We look ready for pretty much anything, don't we? But I don't think anyone expected this...

Yup...onions. 4,800 pounds of them, to be exact (And not all of them were as pretty as the onions in this picture ;-) Still, our perserverance paid off. Check this out...

Doesn't that make it all worth it? Still, I don't think anyone felt like onion rings afterwards ;-)

Thanks for volunteering!

2/1/11- Fabric Finds

Just thought you all might like to hear about what happened last "meeting"! After gathering for a (very) informal business meeting, the Silva and Dahl families headed off to JoAnne Fabrics to pick out fabric for our next service project; making pillowcases for the Childrens Hospital!
There was quite an array of fabrics to choose from, but finding a bolt for less than $5 a yard proved to be a little challenging.

Here's one! (But would any child in his right mind want that to be on his pillowcase? ;-)

Sometimes the search was a little frustrating.....

But a break for fashion design soon drove away all frustration.
Everyone displays their finds.

So, after a grueling search through just about every single bolt of fabric in JoAnne's we managed to find fabric that everyone liked, and stayed within our budget! Can't wait for our next meeting, where we'll sew the pillowcases!
